    Chinese warships roam for US-Australia war training

    Chinese warships reportedly roam outside Australia's territorial waters to snoop on joint war training with Talisman Saber. The training which will be held July 11 to August 24 involves the United States and Australian military aircraft carriers.

    A Canberra defense official said on Monday (08/07/2019) that it was tracking the whereabouts of a Beijing reconnaissance warship.

    The United States aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan, who will undergo Talisman Saber war training in Australia is a spectacle of the locals.

    Talisman Saber war training involved around 25,000 Australian and US military personnel. This joint warfare is held every two years.

    Lieutenant General Greg Bilton, head of joint operations at the Australian Defense Forces, said the Beijing spy ship was likely to head to Australia's northeast coast to spy on war exercises directly.

    "We tracked it. We don't know the destination yet, but we suspect it will go down to the east coast of Queensland and we will take appropriate action," Bilton told reporters in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland state, as quoted by Reuters.

    Relations between the United States and China have deteriorated in recent months amid a trade war and a firm stance on China in the Pacific, including the construction of artificial islands in the disputed South China Sea.

    China claims that almost the entire South China Sea is rich in natural resources and produces around USD 5 trillion of world trade ship traffic every year. Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan also have claims in these waters.

    Australia and China also compete for influence in the South Pacific, a populated region that rarely controls much of the ocean that is rich in natural resources.

    Last month, three Chinese warships anchored in Sydney and shocked local residents because the Australian government did not make a report. The three-ship visit ahead of the 30th anniversary of pro-democracy protests on Tiananmen Square was a reply visit.

    The Chinese Navy has grown dramatically over the past two decades when Beijing sought to expand its influence in the region. Today, the navy is one of the strongest in the world. { Source }
