    The United States (US) has obtained information that the son and successor to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Hamza bin Laden, has died. This was revealed by three US officials.

                                                Osama bin Laden's son and heir, Hamza, has reportedly died.

    The last public statement known to Hamza bin Laden was released by al Qaeda's media wing in 2018. On that occasion, he threatened Saudi Arabia and called on people on the Arabian peninsula to rebel.

    Hamza bin Laden is believed to have been born around 1989. His father moved to Afghanistan in 1996 and declared war on the United States. Hamza joined him and appeared in al Qaeda's propaganda video. As al Qaeda's leader, Osama bin Laden oversaw operations against Western targets which culminated in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

    The elite Navy SEALS forces killed Osama bin Laden in 2011 during a raid on the Abbottabad complex, Pakistan. Hamza was not found in the complex. The letters seized from the base indicated that Osama wanted his son to join him in Abbottabad and take care of him as a leader.

    In an article on September 2017, anti-terrorism expert and former FBI agent, Ali Soufan said Hamza was being prepared for a leadership role in an organization founded by his father and would likely be well received by jihadist council members.

    "The Islamic State Caliphate seems to be on the verge of collapse, Hamza is now the best figure to reunite the global jihad movement," he said.

    In February, the US State Department announced it would pay as much as USD1 million for information about the whereabouts of Hamza bin Laden.

    The US State Department's Counterterrorism Rewards Program describes Hamza as a newly emerging al Qaeda leader who has threatened attacks on the United States and its allies.

    The White House has not yet commented on this news. { Source: sindonews }
