Spider-Man Movie Review: Far From Home

The world has changed since the events of Avengers: Endgame which not only killed Tony Stark / Iron Man but also Black Widow. That event also made Captain America retire and the world no longer has the same protection as they are.

The world hopes for peace are now on the shoulders of a teenage hero, Spider-Man. After being victimized by Thanos's flick on the Avengers: Infinity War, Peter Parker aka Spider-Man (Tom Holland) managed to be revived thanks to the flick of the Hulk's fingers in Avengers: Endgame, five years after the Infinity War event. Unfortunately, when returning to Earth, Peter had to face the harsh reality. His mentor, Tony (Robert Downey Jr.), died after snapping his fingers to eliminate Thanos.

Spider-Man: Far From Home has an interesting story twist. Peter Parker's mental struggle in the midst of his turmoil left by Tony Stark became the point of this film. (Sony Pictures)

Life then runs normally after the event at Endgame. Peter, aged 16, returned to school. A number of his friends who were also victims of the finger flips - called blips - also went back to school with him, such as Ned (Jacob Batalon), MJ (Zendaya) and Flash.

Spider-Man: Far From Home departs from this story. Although trying to return to normal life, but there is a heavy burden on the shoulders of Peter related to Iron Man. Iron Man's death raises new questions about who is his replacement. Everyone puts his hopes on Spider-Man as Iron Man's successor to maintain earth's peace. However, Peter felt he was not ready.

Hoping to be able to release the burden and express his love for MJ, Peter also joined his school group to travel to Europe. Instead of being able to dance and relax, Peter was instead recruited by Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) to face a creature named Elemental who disrupted Europe. He was then paired with Quentin Beck aka Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) who claimed to be from another dimension in the Earth to deal with the creature's attack.

Spider-Man: Far From Home explores the mental development of Peter Parker, a teenage superhero who has to face the reality of how heavy the burden is on his shoulders. The film also provides a tribute to Tony Stark's departure forever in a way that is right and not too excessive.

Tony's death had a lot of influence on Peter's mentality. He felt the loss of a mentor who had been guiding him and in his search for who was more worthy of replacing Tony Stark, he thought he had found it in Mysterio who was so charming. Is that true?

Teenage love stories also appear here. Peter awkwardly tries to express his mysterious and strange love for MJ. His business was almost messy because his handsome classmate also had a crush on MJ. Peter also had to work hard to get MJ's heart.

Spider-Man: Far From Home shows a lot of Spider-Man's actions that are exciting, intense and unprecedented. Peter must face the world of illusion that makes him trapped with his own thoughts. On the other hand, he also must be able to master himself and believe that he is able to face all the challenges and obstacles he faces.

The director of the film, Jon Watts, is able to provide a storyline that runs smoothly from the beginning to the middle of the film. Although it felt a bit flat at the beginning, after a quarter of the 129 duration of the film, Far From Home began to show its shape. All tricks and twist have sprung up and made this film a pity to miss even if only with the blink of an eye. Peter is forced to really take advantage of all his abilities to answer the challenge and defeat his enemy this time. Here, Peter also exhibited his intelligence in mastering technology.

Jon concocted Far From Home by mixing stories about Spider-Man with a number of pieces from several MCU films, such as Iron Man, Avengers, and Captain America. If you are truly a fan of MCU, surely you can easily recognize it. The stitches were pretty neat to set up a story full of an interesting twist.

Unlike Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home is lighter than the story side, but it displays more action and humor that will more than shake your stomach. Ned and Flash are one of the focuses of humor in this film. In addition, the faint romance between Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) will also invite a smile on your lips.

Many honorable mentions of Avengers heroes in this film from Thor to Captain Marvel. Two post-credit scenes in this film are guaranteed to make you more curious about the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Easter eggs also appeared in this film. No wonder the Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige calls Spider-Man: Far From Home the end of the Phase 3 MCU. If you are observant, then you will know where the Phase 4 MCU is going to start next year.

Spider-Man: Far From Home has an interesting story to watch. Peter Parker's mental struggle in the midst of his turmoil left by Tony Stark became a focal point in this film.

Spider-Man: Far From Home can be seen in your favorite cinema. Have a good time watching!
