Salt Production Increases 1 Million Tons

Deputy for the Coordinating of Natural Resources and Services of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Agung Kuswandono, said that the production of national industrial salt has increased. 

"At present, we have added as much as 1 million tons per year, from initially 2.2 million tons now has 3.2 million tons per year," said the Deputy in Jakarta, Monday (05/08/2019).

He added that this salt production was supplied mostly from eastern Indonesia, where there were PT Garam already operating there, as many as 4-5 companies.

"The land area of ​​400 to 500 hectares is already underway and will soon be harvested. And President Jokowi is planned to witness the harvest of salt there. Than 3,720 hectares will be resolved. So soon we will open new land," he said. 

According to him, this review is to prove that salt can be something of high value, and can be developed with relatively simple technology. "So, the production results are not the only salt but can produce derivative products such as isotonic, artemia or shrimp feed and lime CAC O3. And what we see today, can also be produced into spa salts and health salts and the price is soaring," he explained.

Deputy Agung said this review at the same time wanted to introduce and invite salt farmers throughout Indonesia, to implement a similar technology that can harvest salt throughout the year, without weather constraints and can produce derivative products of high economic value. 

"We want to invite salt farmers throughout Indonesia to carry out technology throughout the year as we see it today. However, we cannot apply technology like this if the salt fields are small, because the salt land suitable for this technology is ideally 400 hectares. So the point is we want "To introduce it to the community so that it can be developed together.
